About the Artist
Paul Signac (1863-1935) was a French Neo-Impressionist painter who, alongside Georges Seurat, developed the Pointillism technique. Born in Paris, Signac initially studied architecture but later turned to painting, inspired by Claude Monet. He was known for his vibrant use of color and precise dot application, capturing serene coastal scenes and bustling cityscapes. The Mediterranean coast is a major theme across Signac's paintings. His work and theories significantly influenced future art movements, particularly inspiring Henri Matisse and André Derain, and playing a decisive role in the evolution of Fauvism.
